School directories and listings: keeping them right

Directories are often where parents first meet a school's name. A listing with old fees or a wrong curriculum can lose an enquiry before it starts.

What to check in a listing

  • The school's name, written exactly as on its website.
  • Curriculum and age range.
  • Current fees, or a fee range.
  • Address and a link to the official website.
  • Photos, if the directory allows them.

Keep one source of facts

Keep one internal document with the school's current facts and update it once a year when fees change. Use it to update every listing at the same time.

International school directories

Families moving abroad often start with a directory organised by country and city. Look up your own school the way a parent would, for example on a city list such as international schools in Singapore, and check the fees, curriculum and age range shown. Request corrections where they are out of date.

Read the city page as well as your own entry. On a page such as the Bangkok schools listing, a parent sees your school next to others with similar fees and curricula, so a missing fee range or an old age range is easy to spot.

Who looks after it

Give one person responsibility for listings, with a reminder each year. Listings drift out of date because nobody owns them.
